Collection: Albert Ràfols-Casamada

He was born on February 2, 1923 in the city of Barcelona. He began studying architecture but abandoned it to dedicate himself fully to the fine arts thanks to the support of his father, Albert Ràfols i Cullerés. In 1950 he obtained a scholarship to travel to France, where he settled in Paris until 1954 with his wife, the painter Maria Girona i Benet.

In 1980 he was awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts awarded by the Ministry of Culture and in 2003 with the National Prize for Visual Arts of Catalonia awarded by the Generalitat. Likewise, in 1983 he was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi and in 1991 with the Legion of Honor of the Government of France. He was an honorary academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.
