Fernando Bellver

Fernando Bellver (Madrid, October 26, 1954) is a Spanish painter, representative of figurative art in Spain.

He trained in drawing and modeling at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid and in engraving in the workshop of Dimitri Papageorgiu. In 1980 he traveled to Oslo to attend the Nord engraving and printing workshop, thanks to a scholarship from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture. In 1981 he founded, together with Arturo García Armada and Fructuoso Moreno, the Taller Mayor 28. In 1983 he obtained the Rome Scholarship and moved to the Spanish Academy in the Italian capital. In 1985 he was at the University of Austin (Texas) working as a professor of color printing. In both painting and engraving he moves within figuration. In his works he pays special attention to drawing and the application of color takes great importance, which he uses skillfully in a vision that is not exempt from criticism of our society. His iconography is nourished by recurring images within the history of art that he demystifies, transforming them into objects of consumption.
