Julio Augusto Zachrisson Acevedo (Panama City, February 5, 19301 - Madrid, December 18, 2021), was a Panamanian painter, engraver and sculptor based in Madrid (Spain).
He began his artistic training at the National School of Painting of Panama under the direction of the painter Juan Manuel Cedeño Henríquez. In the early years of the 1950s, after visiting different Central American countries, he settled in Mexico where he attended the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda", coming into contact with the aesthetics of Mexican muralism. and the imprint of Rufino Tamayo. His time at the Taller de Gráfica Popular founded by José Guadalupe Posada was also important. In 1960 he exhibited for the first time at the University of Panama and that same year he traveled to Europe, working in Italy in the workshops of the Pietro Vannucci Academy in Perugia. Later he would move to Madrid, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, approaching the art of engraving.
His work is part of important collections such as those of the National Library of Spain, the Museum of Contemporary Art, in Madrid; the Museum of Contemporary Latin American Art of La Plata (MACLA); MoMA and Metropolitan Museum of Art, both in New York; Poznan Museum, Poland, Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati, Goya Engraving Museum, Fuendetodos, Spain, Institute of Graphic Arts of Oaxaca, Mexico, as well as in collections around the world (Yugoslavia, Iraq, Colombia, Chile, Puerto Rico and France).
