Collection: Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami (村上隆 Murakami Takashi, Tokyo; February 1, 1962) is a Japanese contemporary artist. He works in media involving fine arts, such as painting, sculpture and architecture, as well as what is conventionally considered: fashion, commercial media, merchandise and animation. He is known for blurring the line between high and low art. He coined the term superflat, which describes aesthetic characteristics of the Japanese artistic tradition and the nature of postwar culture. Superflat is also used to describe Murakami's own artistic style and other Japanese artists who have been influenced by him.
