New edition of 220 pages collected in a beautiful cloth-lined case and an Iris cloth binding with prints on the spine and cover, with a 26.8 x 18.8 cm dust jacket. Includes an original engraving by Antonio Saura. (The red case in the image is not included) Its innovative impulse, the sobriety of a language free of any sentimentality and the realism of a story focused on an individual experience that reflects the intemperance of an entire nation, are the characteristics that have turned Pascual Duarte's Family into a key work of the Spanish literature of our century. Published for the first time in 1942, it also had an important influence on the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to its creator, Camilo José Cela (Iria Flavia, 1916) in 1989. The artistic manifestation of "the beauty of the monstrous, like beauty of the obscene" - in Antonio Saura's own words - also seduced the Aragonese painter, who illustrated the book in 1986 with a cycle of powerful images. Saura's ingenuity transforms written visions into palpable images: «The shadow of a knife, in painting that disdains the representation of the manufactured object, becomes a threatening sexual sign. The female form, object of love and hate darkly combined, in soft mass... the aggression of man to the animal, in the monstrous copulation of bats.»
